Conflict and Deliberation

Higher ed depends on conflict and deliberation. (Actually, most organizations, corporations, and democratic governments do, as well.) They are built into the system, intentionally. Why? The rewards are enormous!

Only through conflict and deliberation can you bring in a variety of perspectives and understandings, see how they illuminate the topic, come to a clearer understanding, and then make better decisions. Higher education enacts this through shared governance.

Effective leadership depends significantly on skillful work with conflict and deliberation. Kardia Group works with these topics implicitly in almost everything we do. We also offer ways to work directly with these topics, both together and separately, for individuals and groups.

Turning Conflict Productive

Development Resources

Conflict – many of us seek to avoid it. How can we change our understanding of conflict, so we can begin to reap the benefits of productive conflict? How can we develop the skills necessary to turn conflict productive?

Developing Deliberation Skills

Development Resources

We all engage in decision-making discussions, in our work lives as well as our personal lives. And, likely we have developed and improved our skills over the years, in arenas like listening and collaborating. We have developed a few approaches to take deliberation capacities to the next level, including topics such as ways to work with conflict and taking a look at cognitive shortcuts we all use which may just shortcut us out of what we actually want.
